Central Florida Bench Ads: Choosing the Right Font

Choosing what to say on your bench ad is one thing—but deciding what font to say it in can be another process entirely! While you may see font choice as an afterthought, the look and feel of the type you use in your ad can be extremely important. Below, we will be sharing a few simple questions to ask yourself to determine the best font, size and color for your specific ad.

Is it the right size?

Before we jump into the creative details of your ad and font choices, it’s important to analyze how well the font fits—literally! Examine the font you’ve chosen to see if it takes up the right amount of space in your ad. Is it too large and taking up valuable space from the rest of the design? Is it small and hard to see? Answer these questions to find the perfect balance.

Can I see it easily or does it clash with its background?

Colors can be tricky, so spend some time to decide if your type works with its background and the images in your ad or if it clashes. A good rule of thumb is to keep similar colors apart (such as pinks on reds, greens on yellows, etc.) and to instead choose colors that work well together. These include black on white, of course, but also other combinations like blue and orange, white and red, and more.

Is it legible from a distance?

This question takes the size factor one step further. It’s important to actually test out your ad and see whether or not it can be seen from the street it will be used on—so try out a few different designs to find one that can be seen and enjoyed from the sidewalk and street.

Does it represent my business?

Finally, the most important aspect of choosing fonts for your ad is their ability to “fit” and represent your business. You may love modern, streamlined fonts, but you must decide if these types of font work for your business or if you’d be better off with something more traditional (for example, a ma and pa bakery might choose to go with a comforting, traditional font as opposed to a hard-to-read, contemporary one). Again, this all depends on the character of your business and the message you want to get across.

The right font can make all the difference—so choose wisely! Feel free to call us or visit our sample design page to get a better idea of what fonts are typically used.
