Typeface Tips

The second piece of design is the typeface, or font, of your design. You want your audience to be able to read and understand your message from a distance, so keep your typefaces large and spaced correctly. You want to keep your message on a single horizontal line which allows readers to read without interruption. Multiple text lines increase the time that is needed to comprehend a message. If you must have multiple lines, you should adequate leading between the lines. Some types of fonts you should stay away from are:

  • Letters that are crowded into a restricted space
  • Letters of bulky typefaces
  • Thin typefaces
  • Scripts or cursive typefaces
  • Letters that are too ornate
  • Letters that are too far apart
  • Letters that are too close together
  • Letters that are too heavy
